cheekymonkey Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 (edited) Hi Guys-I have always read a lot of the posts first , and i get out a lot of info from these. I have a question thats about the aux heater. I have a 02 galaxy 1.9tdi 115 zetec and thought that i did not have one of these heaters. But after reading a post discovered to my joy that i do have one, but my question is ~ how do i know if my heater is working/or not, it's been so cold lately and it takes a good 25 minutes before any form of heat comes through into the cabin. so does that mean that the glow plug needs changing. Is there a test or some thing i can do ?have a good weekend <_< Edited January 23, 2009 by gregers Quote

edatelder Posted January 24, 2009 Report Posted January 24, 2009 If it takes that long it very likely that the heater not working, like mine. It really is an unreliable piece of kit on these Sharalxyhambras. Quote

Not a fair comment - I have two current Galaxy's I have had to replace the glow plug on my MK2 2 years ago - it is a 2001 model and my MK1 which is a 1997 model (both have approx 140K miles on the clock) now needs a new one at 11 years old - so I think you are being unfair they are reliable in general. cheekymonkey Posted January 25, 2009 Author Report Posted January 25, 2009 Hi Thanks for the edit. i got some coco and settled down for a long read of this epic thread. And though i am wiser, i am no further clearer, what i think i'll do is take it down in the better months and check it out and i think that should make me understand whats what, and to make sense of whats been written. i'll post again wheni have more news. But it does still like a common topic of discussion, with lots of people having the same fault. I unfortunatly i have the air con not working to attend to first. Cars are not with out their faults and mine seems to come with a list. New turbo, New intermidiate drive shift etc etc, but i would'nt change the car. It is the best car that i have ever owned. It copes with everything that i throw at it, and with 4 kids thats alot <_< Quote
big_kev Posted January 25, 2009 Report Posted January 25, 2009 The booster heater appears to be a common fault because when it fails the vehicle will still run ( for years and years) and it has no effect on the MOT.When it packs in it has a tendency not to get fixed, some drivers who were unaware of it may not even noticed that it has failed. Therefore there will be a lot of tdi's out there with faulty booster heaters as they tend to get put at the bottom of the list of repairs. Quote

Mine has packing in and is way down the list as i cant change it and dont really want to be charged lots of maney for the sake of 10 mins extra to get warm. Quote
